The MBSE methodology this study group works with, SYSMOD, is Tim’s own. A methodology is the ground that carries work through to a real result, and it is that ground the group treads week by week. To hear it from the person who set it down, and to put questions to him directly, was a chance that would not come around again.

Tim Weilkiens is a member of the executive board of the German consulting company oose, founder of the publishing company MBSE4U, an MBSE coach, and an active member of the OMG and INCOSE community. He has written sections of the initial SysML specification and is still active in the ongoing work on SysML v1 and SysML v2. Tim is also the author of the MBSE methodology SYSMOD. As a coach, he has advised a lot of companies in different domains. His insights into their challenges are one source of his experience that he shares.

How the day went
The day ran in three parts, from the afternoon into the evening: an e-bike ride, the keynote, a dinner reception.
The day opened with a ride. Setting out from Yamaha E-Ride Base, where everyone gathered first, the Japan team rode first and the INCOSE IS 2026 guest team followed, about an hour each.
The keynote began from the question of what MBSE is for and why one would take it up at all, and worked through it with real examples. With the facilitator picking up the thread along the way, the questions coming from the floor were pushed further there and then.
A dinner reception at a Japanese izakaya closed the day, and it doubled as the dialogue. Study-group participants and Tim sat at the same table and took the questions from the keynote further.
